This Easter we escaped the increasingly hot and humid weather in Hong Kong and took a trip to Kota Kinabalu in Sabah, Borneo. Only a 3 hour hop from Hong Kong, it was the perfect choice for our ‘baby moon’ – and, as it turns out, very well-suited to the needs of our two girls aged 5 and 2 (notably the kids’ club, amazing kids’ pools and spacious rooms with a huge bath tub on the balcony which they loved!)

We stayed at the Shangri-La Rasa Ria resort situated on a stunning stretch of private beach and home to its very own Orang-utan sanctuary, which meant we could get a taste of the incredibly diverse Malaysian wildlife right on our doorstep without having to risk the perils of jungle trekking while 7 months pregnant!! It was a fantastic break for all the family – total relaxation – and of course, an opportunity for me to personally road test the suitability of our SS14 collection for a beach holiday…

The two winning pieces were our Holly kaftan in primrose/white chevron and our Charlotte top in our new season houndstooth print. Both prints are fabulously fresh with a slighty tropical feel and being made of pure silk, the tops are wonderfully breathable, allowing me to enjoy the warm balmy evenings rather than feeling hot and sticky. But most important of all, these pieces are just a little bit special and so I actually found dressing for dinner to be a pleasure not a chore – and I admit it felt good knowing that in my third trimester I could hold my own among the well-dressed fellow guests!

I wore the effortlessly glam Holly kaftan both as a daytime cover-up and for evening with white leggings – the look obviously improved as my tan deepened!

The Charlotte top (of which I’m a huge fan) paired with white linen shorts from Olian and metallic sandals was a casual look which I loved as we unwound into resort life. Typically I wear this top with white jeans in HK but the shorts worked just as well and will likely be a go-to look for me over the next 9 weeks.

So, a word to the wise (pregnant ladies): if you’re looking to pack smart this Summer, I strongly recommend these lightweight, versatile tops that make dressing a bump on holiday super easy – and super chic!
