The English Season: Anyone for Tennis?

The grass court season gets underway today with the opening of the Aegon Championships at the Queens Club (9-15 June). You can almost smell the freshly cut grass and hear the jangling of ice as that first Pimms is poured. After Queens comes The Boodles 2014 (17-21 June) where more intense competition takes place against a backdrop of Stoke Park’s perfectly manicured lawns.

Queens and Boodles are obviously pre-cursors to the main event (that grand dame of them all, Wimbledon) with the world’s best tennis players finding their grass court feet in preparation for a glittering showdown at Wimbledon (23 June – 6 July).  All three tournaments attract a stylish celebrity crowd so if you’re lucky enough to get tickets (and we’re talking best seats in the house, including lashings of hospitality)  it pays to dress the part. Pippa Middleton, an avid tennis fan and equally keen follower of fashion, is regularly ‘papped’ at these events, looking the epitome of cool Summer chic no matter how hot things get court-side. Then there’s the player’s ‘significant others’ who dress to impress knowing the TV cameras will be zooming in on their reaction to the on-court drama. All eyes will be on Murray’s girlfriend, Kim Sears (who packed a fashion punch wearing Victoria by Victoria Beckham at the Wimbledon men’s final last year).

So, to help you channel that classy Middleton/Sears vibe, we bring you a series of styling ideas to ensure you hold your own during this quintessentially ‘English’ tennis season. Strawberries and cream anyone?
