The Glyndebourne Summer Festival runs all Summer long (from 17th May to 24th August) and is considered a high point (and certainly the most high brow) of the Arts calendar in the UK.  It’s the perfect opportunity to indulge in champagne picnics on Summer lawns while basking in haute-culture…what’s not to love?

Images of sweeping ball gowns gracing the lawns of this East Sussex pile jump to mind (rightly so) but this myth of the event attracting only ageing, eccentric aristocrats is exactly that – a myth. There is a much younger scene at Glyndebourne and while with any quintessentially British gathering, the quirky meets the classic, but an invitation to Glyndebourne is a chance to channel your inner English rose.

Here, we bring you inspiration for the most classical of outfits that will ease you through an afternoon of opera, champagne and lobster, topped off with the famous Glyndebourne summer pudding. The picnic porter service is, of course, optional.

And there is no need to stay away if you’re expecting (though maybe limit yourself to one glass of bubbly!). Research has shown that exposure to classical music will do wonders for your unborn child’s brain development…

No invite to Glyndebourne? Recreate aristocratic life with a trip to the Open Air Theatre in Regent’s Park or Opera Holland Park for a magical, romantic experience that will transport you far away from the hustle and bustle of the city for one balmy evening this Summer.
